Amber Pierson
I am captivated by the Desert Southwest. The light, colors and cultural history of this region are the inspiration for my paintings. From iconic Missions, to retro gas pumps of Bisbee, Arizona to the historic doors of Tucson, I am in constant search of history told in light and color.
I work in various mediums but have become totally enchanted with the colored pencil. As a newer medium, it provides me with the opportunity to fulfill my love of both drawing and painting at the same time. I work layer upon layer to create value and color. Prismacolors, Polychromos and, or Luminance pencils, flow like paint when combined with mediums such as Turpenoid and the Icarus Board. I also use handmade canvases to recede the doors and windows of the Barrio. Doorways are shadow boxed into the work. Charming and unique, they are often painted in complementary colors. Painted in almost three dimensional depth they invite the viewer to “walk up” knock and be invited in.
My true aim is to make something others will enjoy, therefore my work is signed only on the back. I believe its about the art, not me. Honestly, I just love to draw and paint. It is my way of interpreting the world around me, because doing so just fills me with pure happiness!
